Kuching 2019

We were on our way back to Tawau by ferry from Tarakan and when asked do I want to go to Kuching?  Sure, why not and since we were in the region, I thought if it's not now.. it will be never!!!

So suddenly we were changing directions and was frantically trying to book flights, accommodation etc as we were crossing over by ferry.... and luckily I managed to get it all done before I lost connection!  Yayyy, we made it and met up with J & A at the airport and I even managed to get us onto the same flight as Jamilah and Aufa and we are on our way to Kuching!
I have been invited to Kuching years ago by Yuen but never took up her offer.  So now that I am heading there, whatsapp was working overtime and we met up and went out for seafood dinner. Every night after the first night, we were back at Top Spot for dinner but with a different stall number!

This white cat is the biggest cat in the town.  When we were there, it was Deepavali (Indian/Tamil new year), so the cat was wearing Deepavali gear.  Cats of various colours and sizes are scattered all over the town - Kuching literally translates to CAT from Malay to English!

This town is old but yet clean and there is something nostalgic about it.  Brings back childhood memories.  You don't get to see shops like these anymore in the big smoke in KL and people are just happy plodding along and everyone seems to be in "relaxed" mode.  In some ways, its like as if time has stood still here and yet in parts of the town, modern hi tech architectural bridge has been built.
These biscuits were being sold everywhere ... every shop seems to make them and they look exactly the same as the next shop and the next shop but I just did not want to try it as good as it might have been as my stomach space was only reserved for durians and all the so called famous local food.
Ultra modern bridge
Kuching had a waterfront festival happening whilst we were there.  We did not do much except eat, eat, eat and some touristy stuff, but the main reason we were all in Kuching is because DL was here for health reasons.
Besides restaurants and hospital trips, we still found time to wander around the town and explore by foot and Yuen was also kind enough to drive us around, so we did well and packed in as much as we could see and do.
We did the touristy things - Cat museum, hired a boatman to take us around the lake to view the new mosque close up and personal.  We walked across the entire bridge!!!

Cant believe we waited more than half an hour for this bowl of noodles
Grocery shop like in the 60's

Yes, we even got out of our car in the rain to buy/eat durian by the roadside!  The night before, we got ripped by the local durian seller in town.  Little did they know that we were friends of Yuen!!! so they apologised to Yuen!!! but I am not going back to him to give him any more of my business .... big mistake!!!
This veggie is only native to Sarawak
Breakfast squad
As luck would have it, Rina was also in Kuching one of those nights, so we all met up for breakfast the next day.  Rina was supposed to take leave so we could all go to Sipadan together, but her leave application was denied.  So we were all happy even meeting just for a few hours.

Unbelievable, but we went to the movies!
